Some
businesses contact us at The Fire Service Safety Partnership to ask for advice on what
they actually need on site. The following checklist is not exhaustive but
provides a good starting point to understand if you are compliant. A fire risk
assessment;
- Is a standalone document that should be available on site. This is
usually separate from a health & safety policy. The documents deal just with
fire.
- It should have a section in it called 'Significant Findings'. This is a list
of any problems or issues that have been identified after conducting the risk
assessment and is what sets it apart from other fire related documents that may
be on site (e.g. fire alarm maintenance sheet, fire equipment suppliers
equipment checklist).
- A section and careful consideration needs to have been provided for
means of escape, which essentially helps to ensure that in an event of fire, everyone can get out safely. There are some guidelines that you need to consider here.
- A list of control measures or remedial actions. This constitutes your
management action plan to reduce the significant findings identified above.
Once again, the above might look daunting, it is not intended to do so but it
is important that you understand exactly what you need to have on site.
